Arabic Translations

From 11 November 2007 all travellers entering (including re-entering) Libya require an Arabic translation of their passport details page.

Australian passport details must be officially translated into Arabic using an English/Arabic translation stamp in a format approved by the Libyan government.  The translation written within the translation stamp must then bear the Australian Government seal.

In Australia, applicants should arrange translation by a recognised translator of the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).  Visit the NAATI website www.naati.com.au to locate a translator.  Alternatively phone (02) 62 603 035 or email: info@naaati.com.au for further information.

The translator should be advised that the stamp with the required format is available from the Libyan People’s Bureau in Canberra.  Following translation, you may take your passport to any branch of the Australian Passports Office for placement of the Australian Government seal over the translation.

For Australians in Libya, a seal can be placed over the translation at the Australian Consulate-General in Tripoli.

At other overseas locations, you should contact the nearest Libyan People’s Bureau for advice on the process to insert an Arabic translation and visa.
