How long does it take?
You should allow approximately three weeks to receive a new passport.
You can help minimise processing time by ensuring you provide everything we need when you lodge your application.
If you need your passport in a hurry, you can use our priority processing service for an extra fee. With priority service, the turnaround time includes two business days for our processing and additional time for delivery and handling.
What does it cost?
An ordinary passport, valid for ten years, costs A$254. Persons aged 75 and over can choose to have a five-year passport for half the cost (A$127).
The priority processing fee is A$127.

Am I eligible to renew?
If you are 18 or older, and your most recent Australian passport was issued when you were 16 or older and was valid for at least two years when issued, and that passport is still current or expired less than three years ago, you can renew your passport in a streamlined application process.
Your personal details – name, sex, place and date of birth – must be the same as on your last passport. If your personal details have changed, you will need to complete a new passport application form and provide a full set of citizenship and identity evidence.
The application process to renew

1. Obtain a pre-completed renewal form
Complete the renewal application online and print and sign the form. Alternatively, call the Australian Passport Information Service (APIS) on 131 232 to confirm your eligibility to renew and have the pre-completed form mailed to you for signature.
2. Have your previous passport to present with your application
The personal details in your previous passport must match your current details.
3. Get new passport photos
You need to provide two identical colour photos that are no more than six months old. The photos must meet particular requirements. We recommend you check the requirements before you get your photos taken and ensure the person taking the photos understands these requirements. Please do not attach the photos to your application form as this can damage them if not attached correctly.
4. Lodge your passport application in person
You must lodge your application in person. Remember to take along your most recent passport, your photos and the means to pay the fee(s). In Australia, you can pay with EFTPOS, MasterCard or Visa (you can use cash at Australia Post, but not at passport offices in Australia).
