Decision reviews

Reviewable decisions

Some decisions we make may be reviewed under section 49 of the Australian Passports Act 2005 (Cth)(Opens in a new tab/window) (the Act). This is called a reviewable decision.

Internal decision review

You may ask us to review a reviewable decision if you disagree with a decision we've made. This is an internal decision review (internal review).

We'll appoint a different authorised officer who wasn't involved in the original decision-making process.

Timeframe to request an internal review

You must submit your request for a review in writing within 28 days. The 28-day period starts the day after you've been notified of the reviewable decision.

Cost

There's no fee to apply for an internal review.
