On closed days:
- All passport offices, including our phone lines, will be closed.
- You cannot make appointments or collect your passport on these days.
For urgent passport enquiries, emergency consular assistance is available 24 hours a day from our Consular Emergency Centre (CEC).
Do not contact the emergency centre with general enquires. If you’re in a life-threatening situation or need immediate assistance, contact the local emergency authorities. For general consular enquiries contact the Australian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate for the destination you're in.
Over the holiday period, you can start a passport application online and lodge it at Australia Post. Make sure to check Australia Post’s opening hours.
Notarial services:
- An appointment to lodge documents for legalisation must be made via the Smartraveller website.
- Limited notarial services are available between 24 December and 2 January. If you require urgent assistance, you can email legalisations.australia@dfat.gov.au.
